ipads in the Classroom
This school year one classroom on each grade level and our Art teacher were given four ipads. We met monthly to discuss the best way to use the ipads. Here are some of our Top Apps for Education:
- Flash to Pass Math (free)
- Draw Free (free) - Our third grade teacher used this as a visual for changing the endings of words for past tense.
- Mighty Meeting (free) - put powerpoints on your ipad
- Glow Draw (free) - our first graders used this for spelling words and studying word families.
- ABC Alphabet Phonics (free) - great for kindergarten
- ABC Tracer (free for lite version, $1.99 for full version)
- Time to Learn (free for lite version, $2.99 for full version)
- Sentence Builder ($3.99)
- Story Builder ($3.99)
- World Atlas by National Geographic ($1.99)
- Virtuoso (free) - fun piano application
- Talking Tom Cat (free) - second grade students used this to improve fluency. They hear what they have read, but in a funny character voice.
- K12 Timed Reading Practice ($1.99) - can add student names to track progress. Students test each other.
We also found it very useful for research, watching educational videos, using Discovery Education Assessment, and for viewing ebooks. The fifth graders used the on-line dictionary with sound to help with pronunciation.
